WHO WE ARE

About Our Company

In 2007, Lipilichi Wilderness entered into an agreement with both the communities of Chipanje Chetu and the Provincial government of Niassa for conservation management, the improvement of living conditions and development of ecotourism.

For over a decade, Lipilichi Wilderness has been developing and managing Chipanje Chetu as a community conservation area and has made significant improvements in the numbers of important wildlife species while supporting and developing resilient communities.

Where We Are: Chipanje Chetu

We are situated next to the Niassa Special Reserve in the Sanga District of northern Mozambique. Spanning approximately 6,500 square kilometers, Chipanje Chetu boasts diverse habitats, including deciduous Miombo woodlands, open grasslands, herbaceous floodplains, and evergreen forest slopes. Wildlife enthusiasts can encounter Sable antelope, the endangered African Wild Dog, as well as Elephants, Buffalo, Lions, and Leopards. As a community conservation area, Chipanje Chetu is managed by Lipilichi Wilderness in partnership with local governance structures, ensuring benefits from natural resources are shared with the community.

HOSPITALITY

Main Camp

The main camp offers four luxury chalets with magnificent views of the surrounding Miombo woodlands and a dining room with a large fire hearth.

Hospitality

Tented Camps

Lipilichi Wilderness organizes tented camps across Chipanje Chetu for a fully immersed bush experience. Nestled in the heart of the African wilderness, these camps offer an unparalleled opportunity to connect with nature. Guests can expect to wake up to the sounds of the wild, enjoy guided safaris led by experienced trackers, and marvel at the breathtaking sunsets over the Miombo Woodlands.

COMMUNITY CONSERVATION

Yambone, Make Better

The Yambone Initiative is a transformative community-driven conservation initiative created by Lipilichi Wilderness that first took root in 2018. The term “yambone” carries profound significance in the local Yao language, denoting the noble goal of “making things better.” In 2022, the Yambone Initiative evolved into a REDD+ project implemented by Lipilichi Wilderness and the communities of Chipanje Chetu to create a sustainable financing mechanism to support conservation and community development activities while continuing to sequestrate significant quantities of carbon every year.
